When I first heard of this espresso drink – I was more than a bit doubtful – a protein filled instant espresso drink. Being a consummate lover of the coffee bean, I imagined all sorts of horrors with a mix of a multivitamin, protein powder and Tasters Choice. Fortunately for my taste buds, I was not even close! while I am not sure if you could put this drink on the same levels as a real espresso drink, it certainly got me going, and kept me moving with all sorts of healthy and good-for-you ingredients.
This protein infused mocha flavored coffee comes in a 14 serving bucket – much like the new Folgers coffee buckets and a scoop. You just add it to hot or cold water and stir the living crap out of it. If you don’t stir long or hard enough, you get these nasty little clumps floating in your drink. However, they have some sort of promotion where you can get it with an awesome little blender ball shaker which works a whole lot better than spoons or your finger. And you don;t want to accidentally munch any of these lumps. Unlike what you find with hot chocolate mix, these slimy bits of goo look and taste truly revolting. Also – scoop off that froth you might get on top – as it is not what you think it might be – but a wad of slimy protein residue on top.

OK – they did as best as they could with a powder – but this drink is pretty fussy to make. The best way I found to make it is by using boiling water, and shaking or stirring like heck, then waiting the couple seconds to scoop the stuff on top off.
Without those lumps, however, this drink reminds me of what convenience store espresso’s were all about. I know this dates me, but there was a time when there was not a coffee stand on every corner in the US. Energy drinks were non-existent, and the only other way to get something quick and yummy was to get an espresso from a convenience store vending machine – where you push the square button and you get this cup of very tasty pumpkin pie spiced coffee drink, or mint chip, or whatever the weird flavor of the day mix happened to be. While you still can find these instant espresso machines around, they are not as in abundance as they used to be.
These drinks completely remind me of what used to come out of them. You would not exactly call them coffee, but you got a tasty coffee flavored cup.
With all the good stuff in here, this drink could go very wrong. Instant espresso mix is not something that comes to mind when you are thinking about delicious morning treat – and protein drinks are not really known for their deliciousness. However, Click manages to taste like a treat – very thick and sweet, and while this will never taste like a frappucino, it totally eats your homemade chocolate-powder-in-your-drip-coffee mochas.

here is where things get interesting. Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Iron , Calcium – and the list goes on and on with over 23 vitamins and minerals . All this with 15g of protein too – pretty good for 120 calories. Before a good workout – or after a particularly exhausting one, settling down with a nice hot cup of this really hits the spot. In terms of energy, they don’t add in here to boost you more than instant coffee – but that is enough. they say on the label that a 12 ounce cup of Click has about as much caffeine as a 12 ounce cup of coffee – so we are looking at a very decent 100-120mg in a nice hot cup. While not an insane amount of buzz, it keeps you running until lunchtime.

Well, for being a big tub of powder, I am not sure what else they could do. It is a bright purple – and works well for the moderate health conscious person and hanging out with the health nuts. I could see this fit nicely in almost every setting. They list all their ingredients – including a double-shot’s worth of caffeine. There are instructions aplenty about how to make and mix, and the can does not seem to go bad even if it takes a couple weeks to drink. There is a good 14 servings in this canister, so you have at least 2 – 3 weeks in here. Really, they could do no better than this – from the right size to the right layout.
