Hydrive, one of my favorite companies I found on a trip tot he east coast, is back with something very unique to the market. Energy Chews. Sure I have tried chews before – but they did not compare to these orange chunks of delicious energy. If you are lucky enough to find these in a convenience store, just buy it. And remember where you find it because you will want more of them – trust me. The rest of us can only find these online here , and for 3 bucks for 2 packs, the deal ain’t ad either.

orange creamsicle, but the texture is not one I expected. I have tried other chews before, like these from Mad Croc. I expected these chews to be chewy, like a Starburst orLaffy Taffy. Instead, these are very gummy and melt in your mouth. I loved their texture after I got used to it – like sticking the inner parts of a skittles in your mouth. This stuff was very sweet and orangey, like a condensed orange Creamsicle. Even though 2 were supposed to be one serving, it was way too hard to drop all 4 in the pack in my mouth in no time. There was no medicinal flavors, no disgustingly bitter aftertaste – nothing but pure candified goodness melting in my mouth.

I enjoyed their idea that you could time release the energy in here by eating them spaced out – but it just does not work. They recommend the consumer chew 2 chews now, one an our after and the other the other hour for a timed release. Problem is these taste too damn good to wait hours between them. Its like eating half a bag of skittles and saving the rest for later. Not gonna happen.
So to judge this fairly, I am figuring on one serving size being an entire 4 pack of chews. When using my single serving pack, it has a decent 160mg of caffeine in it. On top of the 260mg of taurine, also has a ton of vitamin B complex, all the vitamin C you need for the day, a bunch of magnesium, potassium and calcium. Even if you just manage to stop at 2 chews, you still end up with as much caffeine as your average 8oz energy drink, and still full of all that great vitamin goodness.
Another cool aspect of these chews being so soft is that having them dissolve subcutaneously ( in your mouth) instead of your stomach means it works faster on your system. I was able to try 2 packs of these, and both times received a whopping buzz of energy and alertness. The only problem I foresee is that easy access to these could lead to a serious Hydrive Chew Addiction.

I’ll get to the outside packaging, but the inner foil wrapping each piece was kinda annoying. These treats were just so soft, the foil wrap turned into more of a ball shape, and the chew stuck a bit onto the metal wrapping. Not that I am above licking the foil clean or anything, but if you stick a pair of these in your pocket on a morning summers day, you might end up in a sad sticky situation by noon. The plastic pouch the chews come in is nice enough though, listing the caffeine and all other nutrients clearly. The design is top notch, heeping with the orange theme and everything is pro and clean. the foil wrap is the only thing that is not excellent with this whole product, and is a small price for such a great chew.
