Xyience Xenergy Lemon Blast

What do you think of when you think of lemonade? Sitting on your back porch on a swing? Doing the neighbors lawn? Maybe having a nice picnic?

Well not anymore. From now on, Lemonade will make you remember driving your sports car too fast, climbing cliff faces with your teeth and doing a roundhouse kick to someone’s head. That is because of this new drink, the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) sponsored Lemon Blast energy drink from Xyience.

This could possibly be the best lemonade drink I have ever had. That’s saying something, because lemonade is a very popular flavor for drinks. Xyience itself has a citrus lemon – lime drink AND a Pink lemonade flavor as well. The reason for this is there is really nothing to making a drink taste like lemons. You just increase the citric acid, which all these energy drinks have anyway, and add some sour sweetener like aspartame and toss in a splash of salt. The sweet and sour all blends together in a big mash and you have something that could pass for lemon – especially if the packaging has a lemon on it or at least a big circle of yellow.

Only that is what is not happening here. Sure, there is a big circle of yellow, but the lemon in this lemonade tastes real and juicy and tart and delicious – surprising, since I am not sure this has any lemon in it. There is no doubt that this drink’s ingredients have seen more white lab coats then they have sunshine, but after slamming a cold one on a hot day lawn mowing, I feel refreshed, quenched, and ready to land a quick closed fist punch to someone’s solar plexus (they are Ultimate Fighting sponsors, remember?)

With over 250mg of caffeine and tons of vitamin B complex, this drink is a real contender. Xenergy packs more B12 vitamins than regular Xenergy but is still sugar- and calorie-free with a minimal carb count. I liked the potassium too, giving me some needed electrolytes after giving my weeds a good mowing ( I really should invest in an electric lawnmower…) After a couple hours of yard work, coming into a cold lemonade that blasted me with refreshment and energy put a smile on my face and a BIG perk to my step.

Energyfiend.com finds this muddling and mushy – but I disagree. Where they found mushy, I found brilliant. Absolutely delicious and strong, keeping the fruity bitter and sour of the lemon, but balancing it out with a very sweet aftertaste. Where they found muddling, I found a superior lemon flavor. I know I am being fooled and there is probably no lemon in here whatsoever ( they hid their flavors in the cleverly named ingredient “natural flavoring”), I still taste a bubbly glass of fresh sweet and sour lemons with every chug.

Even with the big yellow circle, the dark black design is a real winner. They even managed to get the lid on right, so the logo points outwards while drinking from the can. The branding is double facing, so the distributors and clerks don’t have to worry about facing the drink – and everything is laid out very nicely. You get the UFC logo and slogan, and all fonts easy to read and without pandering to the “XTREME” grunge typefaces. That is really hard when your drink is named Xyience Xenergy Xtreme Lemon Blast.

The only real problem I see is that they hide their caffeine amount within a proprietary blend, a real mistake when one of their big selling points is that these new flavors have a bigger boost. With the impressive nutritional content in here, I am surprised they don’t advertise it more on the label.
