Battery energy drink

I love drinks that come with a theme – and it’s nice that energy drinks already have one built right in. You have all sorts of lightning bolts, running, and even bottles of jet fuel. So it makes sense that batteries would be common sense. So I am pretty surprised that there are not a ton of battery themed drinks. The only ones I can think of are the big cans by Jolt, and the dual colored fun of Sparks Mart Liquor. This can of Battery Energy is a fantastic drink, made even more fantastic by this great package. If you live in a place where you can come across a can, consider yourself lucky and pick up as many as you can find.

Battery is made by a finnish company, although it seems to be wholly owned by the same folk who bring you Fosters lager. Although I have never even heard of battery until it was sent in a delicious care package by Taurine Rules – the master of all energy drink ( nearing 1000 now). This is also supposed ly a Clearly Canadian product too – but all pedegrees aside – This is a flamin’ good energy drink!

Covering this one first because it is one of the more impressive things about it. It is sent in a big ol squat battery – looking like a beer can even though it has only 11.2 (330) mg in it. Still, looks fantastic with all the black and gold – looking much more like a malt lager than an energy drink. Not that I am complaining, it is just styled very exquisitely, using the lack of color and the ingrease of the shiney to its advantage. The logo works really well, and I really appreciate the website and company info listed on bottom. The only thing I saw that needs help is the lack of a minus on bottom.

In terms of the rest of the can – it is pure fun – down to the ingredients in English and Spanish, while not in suomen kieli, the native Finnish tongue. Instead it had product placements by AT&T and Williams. Doesn’t matter – I am drinking an energy drink from a freaking shiny embossed freaking battery! The ingredients are easy to see and understand, as well as the website and company info. The font choices are superior, very futuristic yet still very easy to read. The only thing which is slightly buggy is there is no minus on it – it is all just plus. Minor annoying tick — still an award winning design on a very unique can.

Taste:9
This is a fantastic treat, and though it is way too heavy for all the time drinking, the mix of citrus and sour with the very natural sweeness make this a great find. While this has some of the Red Bull tones, it is a taste completely on it’s own. I can definitely taste some grapefruit and lemon flavor in here – but it is not at all bitter. The aftertaste is also non-existant, making for one easily consumable drink. I can’t wait to find Stripped, their calorie free version and see how that one holds up!

Love what is in here – and while not exactly healthy, they do all the things energy drinks are supposed to do with no missteps. No high fructose corn syrup in here – instead it is sweetened with sugar and malodextrin. Ther is a ton of taurine and a good dose of caffeine ( 110mg per can) in here as well. There are somew surprising twists in here too, as they list their caffeine cames from guarana ( normal) and coffee ( abnormal) extracts – which I love. I dont think I have seen another energy drink that lists coffee as their caffeine substance. Only issuies is the very high calorie count and the sodium benzoate, as I am not sure you really need such a chemical additive in it. There are over 170 calories in this not quite 12oz can, owing to the table sugar used. still, I would take that over high fructose corn syrup any day…

Very trippy and a great use of flash. very slick design elements and chock full of info. As long as your computer is strong enough to play some pretty big flash movies, this one is pretty damn cool. There are some UI issues, in that the animation and cool takes a backseat to the animation and slick – which is not the priority. I have to wait quite a while and play with the navigation to find out who to call if I wanted to find the drink in my area. So as long as you are going just to browse and not for company or drink information it is very nice.
