Huracan Naranja and Lima Lemon are 2 products put out by the same company as Iron energy, and are actually exactly the same product in a different can. I can understand the reasoning behind this, but still feel like I have been ripped off somehow. Not because of the drinks themselves, but because I just felt that different drinks should have different tastes, never mind the 500 red bull clones out there on the market. So much of this review is copy and paste from the iron energy review, excepting of course for the packaging.
As caffeinated sodas go , this one is just fine. Unfortunately, when I go for an energy soda, I wither want candy flavor, high caffeine content, and enough ingredients that I can feel this is not AS bad for me as as drinking pure glack. Huracan and Iron Energy almost do that, giving better ingredients than a mountain dew, but slacking on the caffeine in the cans. Accoding to big Jay Miller, the proprietor of this drink, it is now redesigned in a 12oz can to even look like a soda pop – which I think would suit this much better than being stuck with the the Red Bulls.
Huracan Energy drinks started in 2004 and was one of first energy drinks to have bilingual cans and try to find their ethnic edge. Huracan is currently sold across the USA, Caribbean, Latin America and Mexico.
Buzz/Nutrition:8 I am judging this as a soda, so my expectations of the drink are much lower than I would usually rate more traditional energy drinks. That being said, This one has great nutrients, even if it has less caffeine than a mountain dew. But while MD has high fructose to sweeten it, this has Crystalline Fructose. This combination along with added Ginseng, B-Complex and Vitamin C deliveres an energy pop which has the appearance of being better for you than your average pepsico product. Still wish it had a higher caffeine concentration. With pepsi max and Diet MD and so many others out there, if I am going to go the unhealthy calorie laden dierection, I need alot of pep for my buck.
Taste: 7 This tastes pretty great – lightly carbonates and tasted more like oranges than you would get out of a sunkist can. If iI were to reach for an orange pop, this would definitely be the one. It is larger than a 180 and more tasty than a Crush. And seeing as most orange themed sodas dont have ANY caffeine, even the little dose in here is better than nothing.
Packaging: 3 Good job jay to redesign this poor can. Even going after the hispanic market, the hard to read handwritten font and swirl of nothing on the front does anything but inspire confidence that this is a premium drink. I have seen pics of the new can, and it look much more of a winner – more of a cool professionally produced soda and less cheap and quick.
Website:3 http://www.huracanenergia.com Really, is this the best you could do? Hire a design firm or at least someone with a modicum of talent and skill to ge this done for you. It looks like this site was done by a 14 year old for a school project. I am sure there would be no problem finding an art school student who could do a better job for the price of a couple cases of your drink. If the can design does not make this drink seem non-viable and homegrown-but-not-in-a-good-way, this is it.
