Power Trip beverages are really quite innovative when it comes to new flavors for their energy drink. Their latest unique flavoring, coconut, is one of the more original and tasty energy drinks I have had in a very long time. While complimented by their mango flavor I have reviewed before, this is the closest you can come to a Pina Colada energy mix as you can get.
According to Power Trip’s CEO, this drink was born during a business trip to Trinidad when Stuart recognized the popularity of the flavor in water, milk, mixes and more at local bars and restaurants.”This isn’t what you would expect,” says Stuart of the coconut flavor. “It’s clear, it’s crisp, it’s slightly carbonated and it’s easy to drink.”
And it’s true – it is all these things – but he left out my favorite aspect of this drink. Just add rum for the perfect hot summer’s day drink.

Not ever having a coconut flavored drink before, I was hesitant. Really, there was no need. This fantastic drink tastes just like a pina colada, substituting alcohol for carbonation. The drink had a very strong pineapple flavored base – and then the coconut came through, along with a couple very exotic flavors, like mango or a little papaya. The drink is also creamy, which usually does not work with carbonated and tart – but pulls together very nicely here. I was able to try this drink by itself, as well with rum and can say it tastes absolutely fantastic as a pina colada mixer – and very nicely just ice cold too. For being without any real juice, this drink tastes fantastic.

Like the other Power Trips, their kick is very nice. This is full of good old fashioned lab made caffeine and natural caffeine ( from guarana) to a bit less than 200mg . I t also has the Power Trip blend of minerals and vitamins, including Vitamins C and B complex. There is energy to spare in here – leaving me quite buzzed for about 4 hours. Like most drinks flavored with simple sugars, this one does tend to leave you a bit crashy after the caffeine wears off.
The other thing I really liked finding in the ingredients list is potassium and calcium – even though they do not list their quantity.
Don’t think of this drink as something super-healthy though, with 220 empty calories from HFCS, tons of preservatives and does not contain any actual juice. But Jose Curevo Margarita Mix uses all those things too -without the happy buzz.
Packaging:
This is a MARKED difference from their old can design. While not amazing, it looks light years better than their old designs. Firstly, there is a little drawing of a coconut on here – with the coconut lettering in a nice silly surf-ish font. The squiggly yellow supposed-to-be-a-lightning-bolt line following through. They also replaced the “Taste the Power!” slogan with “vitamin Powered” which makes the whole package seem much healthier, and is not just filler. It is double facing, so there is no problem on the convenience store shelves, the lid of the can is pointing the right way, and they list the caffeine content right on the label, so there is no guesswork.
