BooKoo Energy Shot – berry

Boo Koo shots are really one of a kind drinks. The can size is in no way related to the punch they throw, and are one of the most candy-fied bursts of energy you will find for a buck and change. While I don’t appreciate all Boo Koo drinks, mainly because of the super sweet flavor and the high fructose corn syrup, but there is nothing to complain about, and lots to rave from this tiny squat can of power.

This is a shot, so you should just slam the whole thing down and wait for the rush of energy
this delivers in a big way. The drink is lightly carbonated – so it is pretty easy to slam down – and the oversweet candy flavor fills your mouth with fake raspberry before sliding down your throat. This drink will get you moving. Without doubt, the caffeine and sugar get you flying high for a couple good hours. I found myself flying for about 3 solid hours before seriously crashing. The sugar and caffeine left me groggly and tired, needing to take a breather and walk around the block to try to get my energy back to a level that I would not be falling asleep driving around town. So if you need the energy and don’t mind a nap 3 hours later, then Boo Koo Shots will do the trick.

Taste:6
Well, they did make this drink easy to slam, which is really the point. The taste is very berry and very strong. While fake and oversweet, the speed in which this drink leaves your throat makes the faults moot. As long as you can slam it, this Boo Koo Shots are fine. But do not, do not, stop to sip this drink. The heavy caffeine and the sour gummy sweet do not make a good combination – and is best forgotten about. Just shoot it down and enjoy the effects.

Buzz/Nutrition:8
Besides all the sweet in here, you will also find a very powerful amount of caffeine, 180mg, packed inside this shot. As for the rest of the ingredients, they are the usual energy drink stuff – 1000mg taurine B vitamins and glucuronoloctone. The problems I have with the BooKoo line is the amount of empty calories that can be found in them. This is flavored with both sucrose and high fructose corn syrup and tastes like it. In this drink, however, the 80 calories are not really that bad. 80 calories can get burned off by a quick walk around the block, or just using up the power in this drink. However, considering the size of this can, the amount of empty calories in this can is very high. If this were in their usual 24 oz big cans, there would be over 320 calories in it! That would explain both the great rush, and the fantastic crash once all the sugar wears off.

Packaging:8
Even though this package is just 5.75oz, they still managed to put a good deal of work in the layout, design and information on this package. the name sparkles and stands out from the background, and the can exudes an aura of energy. The words “double 2x power” shine brightly from the top, just in case you were not already thinking you were about to drink something minimal. What I really liked was the use or color to emphasize the important facts, while the darker colors for the flames and unneeded frills faded quietly in the background. The choices of turquoise and purple on black are not very used in energy drink, but manage to work very very well here.

Its fine. Completely what was expected. Overuse of Newcastle, and gothic fonts, DJ illustrator work with a distressed grunge background. There is a shop where you could buy some Boo Koo stuff, but nothing particularly amazing. It looks like what a design team would put together for appealing to teens/18-34 year old males. It completely lacks originality or creativity, instead opting for the easy out.
