Nitro2Go energy

Nitro2Go started in the mid 1990s a dietary supplement company in California. From all their promotional materials, it looks like they concentrated on making energy shots and “truckers friends” pills. Of course these were full of ephedra back then – which is a no-no today. You can still find literature for this company proudly proclaiming to be “now Ephedra Free!” You would think that for a product that has been around for so long it would have better traction – but other than lots of websites asking you to ‘pretty please become an affiliate and make buckets of cash’, the website, marketing, website, availability and uniqueness of this drink seem to be pretty sparse.

Taste:6
It is sweeter red bull clone! well, not precisely, as this is sweeter than Red Bull could ever want to be. There is a ton of sugar in here – both natural and artificial, enough to make your dentist give out drink guards just to keep this stuff from hitting your teeth. While tastier than your average close – it did not leave me much impression other than hints of plums and the usual energy drink flavor. If this drink represents their line, I would not be at all surprised if their dietary supplements tasted like skittles.

Buzz/Nutrition:5
This company has refused to give out it’s caffeine content, which is never a good sign. Usually when they do this it is because it is not worthy of notice – but don’t want to hurt themselves by stating it does not have a whole lot. It is like when a really bad movie comes out and they hide it from the critics. I LOVE bad movies, especially in the horror/kung fu/sci-fi arena. I know it is bad, but sometimes I am completely in the mood for a Japanese transvestite zombie rock and roll romance film (name that movie…). As long as I am not expecting a touching historical drama and know what I am getting into, I can enjoy it more knowing what it is going for. By hiding flavor and caffeine, it confuses the drinker.
As for the buzz – there is some to be found ( my guess is around 150-180 per 16oz can), but that also could be from the Glucos, Sucrose and high fructose corn syrup found in the ingredients. And as with most sugary sodas, following the sugar buzz is the BIG sugar crash – strong enough to lead to a long nap. There is 220 calories in this can too – and with only the usual energy drink mix to support it I would have to say this is not really worth the mild rush.
Packaging:7
Good use of color and fonts – stood out from the rest of the shelf. While certainly not groundbreaking, it is a decent look with the only real flaws being not listing the caffeine content. I expected more orange fruity flavor from the packaging than a red bull – but the brightness works for me.

Website:4 – nitro2go.com
Copyright still lists 2006, so it is not like there is a feeling of fresh. This hurts when you have whole section devote to Events – with a big “coming soon” alert -which will never be coming. confusing and poorly programmed cart. The items don’t have any info, and the items sometimes but not always show up in the main menu. The cart seems very off the shelf – and put together very quickly, without a whole lot of forethought. As for the rest of their site, there is very little info on the drinks at all. There is a very little bit about the bands that they sponsor, and of course there are lots of pictures of women in halter tops, but I went there to get information ofn the company and the drinks, and there is a distinct lack of both.
