NOS Fruit Punch

Nos used to be quite the forerunner in unique drinks – where even the name itself could not be separated with racing and rocket fuel. The original NOS, a brand of nitrous used in car racing is still being made by Holley, and this drink was born out of natural extension. The original Nos product was so huge, that it attracted a large following until sucked up, along with the whole FUZE product line into Coke’s menacing clutches.

High Fructose Corn Syrup? There is nothing special about this can, from the Hawaiian Punch flavor to the sweet and sour flavor that can be found in so many other drinks. I was hoping for something unique or special, but this can is really all about the packaging – which is nothing spectacular.

There is a formidable 260mg of caffeine in it, as well as 2000mg of taurine – so it provides a TON of caffeine along with the sugar rush.  The caffeine rush in NOS is very serious.  The extra caffeine is very welcome, as most other 16 ounce energy drinks don’t contain this much power.  For being a Coca-Cola drink this packs a very serious punch – at least four solid hours of jittery fun.

Taste:5
the fruit punch is OK. not fantastic – and certainly not terribly refreshing. It also leaves an odd taste in your mouth afterward. Not Bad, per se, but not very good. I have had better and less kool-aid-without-water mixes before, as the taurine adds an extra sour gummy flavor that while it works in some drinks, was not a pleasant surprise in a fruit punch.

Packaging:5
The reason to buy NOS at all is the amazing packaging that could be found in the 11oz shots, the big 22oz bombers and the little 1oz shots. The can is a can – not nearly as special. I did appreciate the easy to find font and the listings of ingredients on the can, as well as the website being listed. The can is not bad, it is just not what had made NOS such a worthwhile item that it could be bought out.

Website:7
Very clean looking site, although a bit model-girly heavy ( I counted 7 scantilly clad beauties on one page, all advertising different spots. Still, a very clean and pretty site – loaded with information on the drink. And nothing on the company. Are they trying to pretend it is not owned now by Coke? it is still a pretty clean site, very devoted to racing and racing fans.
