Slap Juicy

Slap energy drinks impressed the hell out of me with their “Frost” line. This drink managed to pull off well where Stoked Wind Chill failed horribly. Frost managed to stay cool and minty even when it was not such a cold can. It left my breath clean and fresh, and did not taste at all sour or bitter. So when Nolan from energyheaven.blogspot.com sent me a can of a juice flavor, I was pretty excited to give it a go.

Overall, this drink really impressed me – having a great buzz along with tasty flavor and a ok can. There might be quite a few choices of caffeinated punch to choose from on your grocery shelves – many of them worthy – but don’t overlook this new absolutely delicious find. If you like the punch, I would stock up now – it looks like this drink did not make their new lineup.

I was quite a bit taken aback finding this was sold in big lots. Of course, lots of cool back stock can always be found there, but it is usually a clearinghouse for drinks on their way out – a last resting stop on their way to oblivion. I liked Slap drinks, from their stupid swirl logo to their tasty beverages. Maybe they were just clearing stock on their way to bringing us their newest, reformed energy drinks.

You will find a great burst of energy in here, bumping up the caffeine to 200mg per can, along with my taurine, malodextrin, isomaltulose, and 100% rda of your vitamin B complex. I am surprised there was no vitamin C in here – and also surprised there is sucralose in here too (would it really cost that much more to have more than 50% juice?) but it does not need to be healthy if ti gives a good buzz.
And that it does. With the caffeine from guarana and the simple sugars from the juice, I got alert and perky for a good 4 hours with almost no crash. The isomaltose and malodextrin was a nice idea, so the sugars kept me going for a while after the caffeine started wearing off. The caffeine dose is already pretty high at 100mg, and then they add an undisclosed amount of yerba mate to boost the caffeine content even higher!

I am not sure if this has been my favorite punch I have had, but it is certainly very good. It was not too sweet, and even on the tart side – which I expected from a cherr drink. What I did not expect was not using a filler crap base of apple or grape, and instead using pear, peach, and cherry juice. There is a little apple here, but at least it is not the main juice used.

Lots going on here, from the dozen or so fonts and the big JUICY emblazoned on the front, to the poorly printed background. While I like busy, this can is a bit of a muddle. Also, their is no double facing on the can, so the chances of the consumer not seeing the label are higher. I did get my lid positioned correctly, but I don’t know if that was just a happy accident. The slogan was nice, as well as the caffeine listing.
While not staggeringly nice, this is a decent can hurt by poor printing and an overactive designer.
