Spike has always come out with the most intimidating of energy products. Their Spike Shooters are a heart palpitation in a can, and their Spike Shotguns topped my list for best energy drink of 2008. Now, this Spike shot is covering the nation, filling convenience store counters with enough energy to make all those 5 hour energies grow limp and cry. While not as amazingly powerful as was expecting, the shot still can give you more than enough energy to last for the day.

One entire day? That’s right – there is more than enough stuff in here to keep you going for a long long time. Per bottle, this stuff is about as strong as it can get – 350mg. However, they do stress that this contains 2 shots, and is a big 4.25 ounce bottle. Upshots and a couple others contain 200mg per shot, so per shot this is not so deadly. But, like Redline Rush, this stuff can get pretty potent if you slam the whole bottle in one go. They did keep out the serious stuff they have in their energy drinks, namely the Yohimbine. Instead, they put just N-acetyl-L-tyrosine and Beta-alanine – which still do the trick. Think of this like 5 shots of espresso in a small 4 ounce bottle – only much much easier to drink.

This is one of the few things that say Double shot and actually mean it. Almost ever 16oz energy drink lists 2 servings, but make the can impossible to figure out just how much that serving is without pouring it into another container and measuring it out. Spike however make this easy, with a see through strip on the side delineated at the one serving line. I love this idea – even if it is hard to read – just for the effort. I also like that they list the caffeine amount on here – something many energy shots do not. the bottle itself is nothing exciting, like a 5 hour clone only bigger. The double shot is nice though, especially if you are ending up paying over $4.00(!!!) per tiny shot bottle.
Taste:8
They have different flavors of this out in stores, but this one seemed to be devoid of any other flavor besides their Original. It tastes fruity, and while nothing amazing, it was tasty enough to be a problem. The problem is it is hard to stop after the one serving – and is WAY too easy to end up carelessly knocking back the entire can – which will leave your eyeballs bouncing around in your head for hours. I mean, the flavor is excellent, but I am not sure it should be. For something this strong a more harsh flavor would remind drinkers to take it easy with this one.
