Wired Passion Fruit with calcium

This latest offering by Wired is the perfect energy drink for those types of women who would NEVER be caught with an energy drink. You know the type – the ones who feel the need to lecture you on how that thing in your hand will cause grievous harm to you and how dreadful you are while holding that mug of expensive Starbucks frou-frou in their hand. The types who look at you and scoff and smirk at you like you were a little boy. And while there certainly are men that fall into this category too, this drink is primarily aimed at those women.

It does have a whole lot going for it as far as weak sodas go. But – if you are looking for an energy drink to show momma that they are not all bad for you, this is the can to pick up. There are a lot of functional healthy ingredients, supports a good cause, and has a laughable amount of caffeine in it. They go out of their way to use girly fonts and nice girly colors, trying every trick to get this into the crowd who would least buy energy drinks.

Besides being an energy drink that is OK to bring home to the parents, a cool thing about this energy drink is that Wired will donate a portion of the proceeds of this product sold to Breast Cancer Research. So if you are looking to find an energy drink that is harmless, buzzless and safe for all occasions, then this is the one.

Taste:6
Not bad, although the flavor and color remind me of that fruity lip gloss. Not bad at all, but kind of oily, and artificially sweet. I did like the passion fruit flavor, although it seemed to me to be more of a generic berry candy flavor that any fruit in particular, it still was very good. It would be hard to mistake this as anything that tastes natural though, as it has a stronger chemical taste than most sodas I have had – and could have cut back on the preservative content.

Nutrition/Buzz:7
No Buzz to speak of. So why a 7 if there was no buzz? Well, it has lots of other stuff, and just enough caffeine to help you not get a caffeine headache , keep the craving down, and give you the perk of a single cup of coffee. The drink also has Vitamins B12, B6, B3, and D. Also, it is loaded with Calcium, Aloe Vera, and Green Tea Polyphenols – so you get a whole lot of goodness with a touch of caffeine. So when you hand this off to your Aunty Back East, and she scrutinizes the label, as long as she does not mind preservatives she will be frowning with approval.

Packaging:8
this is a mostly standard wired can. There are some subtle differences that I really liked, though. The fonts are very nice and easy to read, and the caffeine content as well as all the nutrition is all labeled nicely. The flames are just enough to give it a little edge, but the bright pink ribbon color takes away any hardcore-ness this can could have. When you add the bright pink ribbons to it, it just becomes a lovely can suitable for your grandma. While not for even the moderate energy drink fan, it is nice knowing there is a package that is safe for all occasions – listing out the ingredients and caffeine, as well as a nice toned down slogan explaining how good they are as a company for helping a good cause.
