On Go Mandarin Orange

On Go has already impressed me with their berry energy shot, so good it makes you rethink the energy shot as a category. I had high hopes for this shot – thinking it would be in the same category. Unfortunately it was not as good as the berry – but still pretty great. In terms of energy, this thing is quite loaded, giving you more than you would ever need for a good 4 hours. If you see these in your local c-store, don’t hesitate to grab one of these to keep you moving.
Taste:8
While by no means as spectacular as the Berry, the mandarin orange is still pretty tasty. The flavor is a little more sour than a regular orange, hence the mandarin in the name. For a comparison, I would say this was like drinking Metamucil – decent for a functional drink, better than 5 hour and most others out in the market, but you would not go back to this one for taste alone. It does not taste oversweetened or in any way artificial, but is a very pleasing burst of orange.

Nutrition/Kick:9
As expected, this drink has a bunch of caffeine in it, and the usual energy suppliments of B vitamins, taurine and the rest. Also as expected, On Go tops the usualy shots by adding in a great amount of enzymes boosting your energy levels to new heights, and then tops all that energy off with a amino acid blend AND electrolytes to keep you hydrated. This gives at least 4 solid hours of wakefulness – very sustained – and I had no ill effects later. This blend is really superb, from the Ginseng and to the phylalanine. If you have not been a real fan of energy shots before, this one will win you over.
Packaging:8
Their new design is much improved over the older one – as their new color scheme is very clean and easy to read. Like most other shots out there, this one has the 5 hour energy bottle, with the plastic shrink wrap that shreds the entire label. Like their other flavors, they do not feel the need to list their caffeine content – which I think is a mistake. What I do like is that even in a world when energy shots are the least designed, On Go takes their time to come up with a very pleasing color palette and overall layout.
